Film Opening

After doing a class review of everyones film openings my feed back was
- The cinematography was very good
- The gradient of the clips are well changed and match well together

My constructive critism was
- to change the ending so it doesnt cut out straight away
- There is a slight jump in sound that needs to be smoothed together.

Extra Medical Room Scene Storyboard

Filming Permission Letter

Risk Assessment

Nicole and Nancy

Nicole
Age: 19
Nicole cares a lot about her looks however doesn’t have much confidents. She is absolutely scared of everything especially the dark. She likes to be liked by everyone and enjoys popularity. She was raised by her single mum and no one knows what happened to her Dad as she never really talks about him. Most of the girls find her annoying however she is very much liked by the boys because she is easily manipulated by them for being so stupid.
Played by: Anisa Yahya

I didn't really know anyone that would be perfect for playing the role of Nicole however Anisa is involved in a drama school so I thought that she would be the perfect person to interpret the role of Nicole

Costume, Hair & Makeup
Pink is usually the colour associated with girls and as the character Nicole is very girly I thought that dressing her in pink would be ideal.

Costume: Pink Shirt, Light coloured jeans, pump shoes and pink earrings.

Hair: Down, in a middle parting and curly (this shows that she has put a lot of effort into doing her hair.

Make up: Simple makeup with a pale coloured eye shadow and skin coloured lipstick.

Nancy
 Age: 20
Nancy is organised and is the main planner of the holiday. People would say she is the mastermind of the group. She is very weak minded and easily manipulated by everyone around her especially Jess. She doesn’t drink or go out to many parties however is mostly lead on sometimes to do these things by the boys of the group. She is a virgin. I think this tells a lot about someone at the age of 20 who is surrounded by so many bad influences from her friend group.
Played by: Charlotte Chamberlain
I chose Char to play the part of Nancy because by changing her hair and makeup I can make her look really nerdy. Also she is the only person I know who wears glasses.

Costumes, Hair & Makeup

Green is said to be a tranquille colour which is why the earth is covered in green and why most classrooms tend to be painted a pale green colour. I decided to dress Nancy in green because she is very intelligent and needs a good coloured enviroment in order to work well

Costumes: Green top, dark blue jeans, plain black brogues and glasses

Hair: tied back in a tight ponytail.

Make up: no make up apart from a tiny bit of mascara and lip balm.

Film Title

'The Holiday'

Holidays are usually an extremely happy place to be and a way to get away from any stress in normal life. An unexpected name for a horror movie? Potentionly, after seeing the title, the audience wouldn't expect a horror film. The idea of turning a santuary, such as a holiday, into the scene of a horror movie has been done so many times however a literal title has never been used so I decided to go back to basic. Also, after showing people my story boards, it wasn't entirely clear that the group of friends were going on holiday, so by naming the film 'The Holiday' this shows that.

Production Roles

Props

THE HANDHELD CAMERA
The handheld camera plays a big part in 'The Holiday' because half of the film opening is filmed using it. The friends use it to document their time together and their holiday
THE SUITCASE
The suitcase is the main prop used in the bag packing scene. This prop shows the audience that the friends are going away somewhere.

THE RED BEANIE
The red beanie is a big part of Jess's fashion and I believe it shows her willing to stand out from everyone else and always be the centre of attention. For that reason, I think it is neccesary to show it with the props.

Floor Plans

This is a key to my floor plan. Each coloured cross represents a different character and the orange cross represents the camera position

This is the bag packing scene. Anisa is sat in the computer chair, Charlie is over by the wardrobe and Char is between the bed and the piano with the handheld camera. I have access from the door in the top right hand corner.

This is the floor plan for the scene where the characters book the holiday, I am now only using the three girls in the scene. I have access from the door in the top right hand corner.

This is the chase scene. The moving red arrow represents the movement of Charlie down the pathway. The black cross is the stile she jumps over. This area is accessed by a footpath which leads from a country road from the direction of the stile.

This is the scene where the group picture is being taken. I am now having no characters in the scene, only a voice over because I want it to come across as a memory and not present time. This location is accessed from all around as it is outside the front of my house.

This is the first scene that is going to be seen in 'The Holiday'. The scene takes place in a medical room. The red cross represents the positioning of Charlies character, Jess, on the medical bed and the orange cross is where the camera will shot from. The orange cross over the red cross represents a birds eye view of Charlie. I have access from the right door as the left door opens up to a cupboard.

Locations

Bedroom scene where most of the memory scenes take place i.e. bag packing, booking the holiday. This location is easy to access because it is my own bedroom.

This is the pathway where the chase scene takes place between the character Jess and an unknown character. I chose this place because it is very secluded and comes across as being in the middle of nowhere. Permission is not needed to film on it because it is a public footpath

Shot List

Change idea

After doing some filming over the holidays, I found it hard to get all my actors together in the same place. After mulling over all my ideas and talking to my teacher, I have decided to limit my actors to only Charlotte Heaps. I am planning on keeping the bedroom scenes however not having any of the actors, just eerie voice overs to make them more memory like. I am also adding an additional hospital/metal patient bed scene, which will be my opening shot.
